Meta’s screen-equipped eyewear has never left the United States, and until now it could only be bought in person. Both limits fall away: Ray-Ban Display heads to Canada, the UK, France, Italy and Germany, and online ordering opens for the first time.
Pricing starts at 749 pounds in the UK and CA$1,149 in Canada, both available today. Shoppers in France, Italy and Germany can pre-order at 899 euros ahead of availability on October 13. US buyers still pay $799, and prescription lenses can be added through meta.com in the US and Canada.
Hologram calling is the headline software addition. With no eye or facial tracking on the frames, Meta leans on a brief self-capture taken in the Meta AI app to generate a lifelike avatar, then lets the model read mood from tone of voice alone. The feature enters early access on WhatsApp for US wearers later this autumn.
Navigation gains cycling and public transit directions, rolling out first in the US and Canada this month. Instructions can also describe the world instead of street names, so a wearer might hear “turn left at the yellow house”.
Smaller additions include an Explore app for browsing compatible experiences, Dolby Atmos for capture and playback, photo editing on the display, a richer calendar, mirrored phone notifications and Threads community feeds.
