Valve’s Steam Frame appears closer to release after an ARM Steam Client update this week reportedly bundled unboxing, sign-in, and setup clips for the headset. The videos were first flagged by the Steam Hardware Updates account on X.
Valve has been on the brink of launch for months. The headset cleared FCC certification in late July, and reports of container loads of units arriving in the US surfaced back in June. Valve has also been prepping its VR software stack for the crowd of new Frame owners, curating a page of compatible games and quietly relaxing the rules for developers who want to bring standalone content to the platform.
The long wait is partly a product of the memory and storage shortage, which Valve has said would delay Frame and its Steam Machine console alike. Now Qualcomm’s plans to raise mobile chip prices could add more delay, since Frame runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.
Leaked videos suggest the hardware is ready, but the two questions that matter most remain unanswered: price and release date. Valve is known for keeping its own timeline, and Frame fans may not have to wait much longer for the answers.
