Meta’s smart glasses are showing up in a troubling new setting: school hallways. Digital Trends, pointing to reporting from Futurism, describes students using the glasses to capture teachers and classmates on video, with some footage devolving into harassment of girls. The clips show boys closing in on girls, trailing them as they try to walk away, and taunting them about how they look.
Other footage captures confrontations between students and teachers, turning private moments into social media content. The glasses make discreet recording easy, so people can end up online without ever realizing they were filmed, let alone agreeing to it.
The reports are especially worrying because the targets include minors. Meta’s platform-cleanup efforts have targeted the worst rizzcam material, yet these hallway clips point to the behavior spreading among students far younger than the influencer crowd the company has centered on.
The episode adds to a growing list of privacy concerns around camera glasses, from bans in courtrooms and government offices to questions about consent in public spaces. For schools, the challenge is that the technology is now cheap, common, and nearly invisible in a classroom.
