Snap has set a date for the official launch of Specs, its long-awaited augmented reality glasses. The event will take place September 16 in Los Angeles, with Snap CEO Evan Spiegel delivering the first in-depth look at the device.
The company first revealed the Specs design and pricing in June, positioning the $2,195 headset as a developer-first AR device. Specs are standalone smart glasses with a 51-degree field of view, running Snap’s own operating system without requiring a phone tether.
Spiegel is expected to demonstrate how the glasses handle AI assistance, work tools, entertainment, and shared experiences. The pitch is that Specs let people interact with computing content while staying present in the physical world, rather than staring down at a phone screen.
The September 16 livestream will be available at specs.com/launch starting at 4:00 PM PT. Snap is bringing together industry partners, developers, and creators for the hands-on event in Los Angeles.
Pricing remains the biggest open question for actual consumers. At $2,195, Specs costs significantly more than Meta’s Ray-Ban lineup, which starts at $224. Snap has positioned Specs as a professional and developer tool first, with broader consumer availability expected later.
The September event marks the culmination of years of AR hardware development at Snap, following earlier Spectacles camera glasses and multiple prototype AR headsets shown to developers since 2021.
