Vuzix has introduced Shrike, a configurable waveguide display platform aimed at defense, security and first responder work, and says initial evaluation units have started going out to customers.
From Rochester, New York, the company markets Shrike as working hardware: buyers can assess display performance, fit and system integration on the real thing before committing to a purpose-built design.
Optically, the kit presents a 40-degree field of view, and its imagery is full-color at 1280 x 720.
Brightness is rated at 3,000 nits to the eye. Eye relief comes in at 25 mm, and the eye box measures 14.3 x 14 mm.
Buyers can add electrochromic tinting to tune how the view looks, and Vuzix Incognito cuts down on light escaping outward from the lens. Orders can specify a monocular or binocular build.
Vuzix points to situational awareness, drone operation and human-machine interface development among the uses, and lists Micro HDMI and Mini USB for connections.
Vuzix chief executive Paul Travers said the point is a display defense buyers “can work with now,” one that still leaves them free to tailor it.
AUSA’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., is the first stop, October 12 to 14, followed by Modern Warfare Week at Fort Bragg, November 16 to 19.
