Samsung is expected to unveil its first AI smart glasses at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22, entering the fast-growing smart eyewear market that Meta has dominated.
According to multiple reports, the Galaxy Glasses will run Android XR with Gemini as the built-in AI assistant. They carry a 12MP camera, speakers, and microphones but offload all processing to a paired phone — no display and no onboard compute. Weight is rumored at around 50 grams.
The compact design includes LED indicators for privacy, similar to Meta’s approach with its Ray-Ban cameras. Without a display, the glasses rely entirely on Gemini’s voice and audio capabilities for turn-by-turn directions, messaging, photo capture, and live translation — all routed through the paired smartphone.
Supply chain leaks suggest a price between $379 and $499 for the initial model. A display-equipped version, which would compete directly with Meta’s rumored next-gen glasses, is expected in 2027.
Samsung’s entry comes at a pivotal moment. Meta sold 7 million smart glasses units in 2025 alone, and Google’s first Gemini-powered glasses from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster arrive this fall. Android XR, co-developed by Google and Samsung, provides the platform foundation for all three, but the Galaxy Glasses are Samsung’s first bid to own the hardware experience.
The July 22 Unpacked event will also feature the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8. Samsung has not officially confirmed the glasses, but leaks point to a release later this year.
