Hello Games has shipped its biggest update yet to No Man’s Sky, and this one finally fills in the part of the universe that felt emptiest: space itself. The free Cosmos update, version 7.0, lands in time for the game’s 10th anniversary and supports PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets on Steam.
Where space once served mainly as a transit lane between planets, Cosmos makes it a place to live. Players can claim and personalize a space station, join an alliance, build an orbital base or a star base out of an asteroid, salvage hulking wrecks for loot, and take on a new set of missions. New belts of rock and ice can be mined for crystal resources.
The VR side gets a boost as well. UploadVR notes the update adds PC VR eye-tracked foveated rendering, a feature that sharpens where a player looks, arriving just as Valve’s Steam Frame headset approaches release.
Studio head Sean Murray calls Cosmos real endgame stuff. An optional expedition, Our Journey Continues, ties its milestones to each of the game’s forty major updates since 2016. Hello Games has not said when the final content update will come, with the studio busy on Light No Fire.
