Amazon keeps finding new work for glasses. The company told partners at Ignite Live, its annual conference, that it will put another $1.9B into the Delivery Service Partner program in 2027, and the two systems it named as proof of progress were a generative mapping engine called Wellspring and a pair of displays its drivers wear on route.
The Smart Delivery Glasses push navigation, scanning and safety prompts into a driver’s line of sight, so less time goes to looking down at a phone. Amazon says the newest units add an LED headlamp, hands-free scanning and proactive address verification, plus defect detection that warns a driver when a parcel does not match the address at the door. A paw print icon and audio alert fire when delivery data flags a pet at the stop.
Deployment is the real signal. Amazon says it will keep scaling and expects more than 20,000 devices in the field by the end of 2027, on top of the 5,000 units it added this year.
The same announcement covers surround-view cameras that spot vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians, dynamic hazard alerts inside the Amazon Delivery App, and routing that adapts to weather and road conditions. Amazon says serious vehicle crashes across the network fell more than 23% last year.
Workplace rollouts are where head-worn displays find volume, and Amazon is now one of the largest single buyers in the category. It frames the glasses as a safety and efficiency tool rather than a consumer product, which keeps the pitch away from the privacy fight dogging camera glasses from Meta and Snap.
