Samsung’s first Android XR glasses will arrive without a screen, but a more ambitious follow-up is already taking shape. The Elec says the company has gone shopping for fresh microdisplays that would finally bring color to a future pair.
The panels under discussion are tiny, roughly 0.2 inches or smaller. Samsung Display is still weighing performance against price, the report adds, as it works toward a form factor light enough to wear all day.
It is also undecided whether the second pair will use one display or two. A monocular design puts a single screen over one eye, matching the prototypes Google and Samsung have shown. A binocular setup, with a screen for each eye, would open the door to true 3D content but adds bulk and cost.
Whenever it lands, the display model looks like a late-2027 product. For now, Samsung’s first pair stays in the audio-and-camera lane, closer to Meta’s Ray-Bans than to a full AR headset, with frame designs from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.
The roadmap matters because display-equipped glasses remain the hard, expensive part of the market. Getting to a color screen small enough and cheap enough to sell is the hurdle every glasses maker is still chasing.
