Valve has flipped the switch on SteamVR 2.17 for everyone, not just testers running the beta branch. The release arrives while its standalone Steam Frame headset still waits on a date and a price.
The release rebuilds the SteamVR Dashboard. It now carries Steam Deck-style Quick Access controls, plus faster routes to achievements, guides and notes. Valve also widened overlay management, improved battery reporting and added brightness controls.
None of it is exotic. It is desktop Steam arriving inside a VR runtime, which matters because Steam Frame runs SteamOS. The layer underneath the headset now behaves far more like the client people already use. Road to VR notes units have been landing in US shipments for weeks, and Valve has published a Great on Frame page listing titles verified for the device.
What is still missing is the part buyers care about most. There is no price and no firm shipping date. Valve’s Steam Machine console arrived at $1,050 last month, well above expectations, and the ongoing memory and storage squeeze suggests the headset could follow the same path.
The picture is a company tightening software, stocking hardware and holding the announcement back. For Steam Frame watchers, 2.17 is the clearest sign yet that the only piece left is a date.
