Valve’s upcoming Steam Frame hardware has found its first launch-window companion: Gunman Contracts Stand Alone, an action FPS designed for both VR and flatscreen play, will be on sale the day the device ships.
The announcement arrived at the August VR Games Showcase, tucked into the closing seconds of a new trailer. Valve has still not committed to a Frame release date, and the shooter will not come bundled the way Astro’s Playroom shipped with PlayStation 5. It will simply be available for purchase from the first day.
Players step into the shoes of a hired killer cleaning up a lawless city, and the dual-mode design lets PC owners switch between VR and traditional controls. Steam Deck is supported as well, giving Frame buyers several ways to run the same game.
The timing is a small but telling sign that studios are lining up releases around Valve’s standalone hardware. Steam Frame has been edging toward launch in recent weeks, with Valve building a library of optimized titles, though a full day-one lineup has not been promised.
No separate ship date exists for the shooter itself, since its Early Access window follows whatever day Frame arrives. For would-be owners, that makes the game a fixed piece of the headset’s first day, whenever Valve decides to pull the trigger.
