Andy Weir’s sci-fi blockbuster Project Hail Mary is coming to mixed reality this fall, with Android XR confirmed among the launch platforms. Studio Maze Theory released the first extended gameplay trailer for Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars this week, with the experience due on Meta Quest, Pico and Android XR hardware.
The adaptation is a brand-new chapter written alongside Weir, the author behind The Martian and the original Project Hail Mary novel. Footage shows players leaning on science and engineering skills to keep the ship intact while ferrying world-saving cargo toward the home world of Rocky, the story’s beloved alien companion.
Maze Theory says the relationship with Rocky drives the experience, as players bond with the creature over the course of the mission. The studio is billing the title as a first-person journey rather than a straight retelling, giving fans of the novel a fresh story set inside its universe.
The Android XR confirmation is the standout detail for the eyewear beat. A property of this size arriving on Google and Samsung’s platform signals that Android XR is becoming a destination for premium entertainment content, not just utility apps and demos. Quest and Pico owners get the same release, but the glasses-adjacent ecosystem gains one of its highest-profile games yet.
