Google has moved the core of its Android XR development stack to beta, a step toward production apps for headsets and wired smart glasses.
The Jetpack XR SDK’s SceneCore, ARCore for Jetpack XR, and XR Runtime libraries all reached beta this week, with API refinements shaped by feedback from developer previews. Jetpack Compose for XR remains in alpha.
The milestone matters for the glasses market because Android XR is the software foundation for an expanding lineup of headsets and wired eyewear, including Samsung’s Galaxy Glasses. Developers can build 2D and 3D apps with familiar Android tools and ship them across those devices.
Google says the beta releases focus on fundamental building blocks so teams can take experiences from preview to production, with new dependencies available through Google Maven.
