Valve’s Steam Frame just passed the last regulatory hurdle before it can go on sale in the US.
The FCC published its equipment authorization for the headset, listed under model number 1015, within the past day. Testing paperwork dates back to May, but the grant only became public this week. Until now, US sales were not legally possible.
Certification is standard for any gadget emitting radio, WiFi, or infrared signals, but it is also a required gate before retail distribution begins.
Road to VR still expects an official Valve announcement, likely following the same rollout pattern as the Steam Machine, which launched last month starting at $1,050. Hands-on coverage has already detailed most of the headset’s specs. The biggest remaining unknown is price, especially after reports that Qualcomm raised chip prices.
Steam Frame is Valve’s standalone successor to the Index and a direct challenge to Meta’s Quest line in the PC-VR space. The FCC milestone means the long-running tease is finally moving toward a ship date, with the exact launch window still under wraps.
