The Neon Genesis Evangelion universe is getting its first public VR showcase this month. A lottery will pick roughly 80 attendees for a free hands-on session September 25 near San Francisco’s Union Square, where early builds of EVANGELION: Delta CROSS REFLECTIONS’ Story Mode and Battle Mode will be playable.
Attendees will also get an AR experience featuring a major Evangelion character and a virtual recreation of NERV Headquarters, the series’ iconic underground base. The game spins a new story that crosses paths with the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion, casting the player as a NERV officer cadet who interacts with familiar characters while finding their footing on an inexperienced team.
A full release is planned for 2027, and while platforms remain under wraps, the studio says both VR and MR will be supported. For now the preview offers the first public taste of how one of anime’s most enduring properties translates to headset play.
