A model that can render interactive worlds in real time could reach TikTok users and Pico headsets as soon as October, with ByteDance’s founder personally running the project, people familiar with the plans told Bloomberg.
The effort builds on Seedance, the company’s engine for cinematic video generation. Google’s Genie, the obvious benchmark, does not just output flat clips; it fabricates explorable environments live and even drafts physical settings that software agents can navigate. ByteDance wants a comparable capability of its own.
For Zhang Yiming, the appeal spans the company’s whole stack: AI systems and cloud capacity on one side, consumer apps and the Pico XR unit on the other, with the video tool as the connective tissue. The timing carries extra weight because Pico has pushed its Space Pro launch event to Q4 while polishing what it calls a major software upgrade.
Whether the two moves are linked is an open question, and Bloomberg’s reporting offers no firm release date beyond next month. ByteDance has stayed quiet publicly. Even so, the project shows how hard the company is pushing to match Google in generative worlds that could eventually power mixed-reality content on glasses and headsets.
