XREAL’s Aura has spent months as a spec sheet and a $99 reservation deposit. This week it got a verdict from someone who had no interest in face computers at all.
Android Police’s reviewer went in cold, with no wish to strap a cinema to their face and no patience for bulky gear, then spent an hour with the dual-screen Android XR glasses. The result was a convert.
Comfort did most of the work. Aura stayed light and wearable across the full hour, with the two screens sitting just millimetres from the eyes. The reviewer needed no focus adjustment on the first attempt and found the picture surprisingly clear.
The kit travels well. Everything packs into a pouch about the size of a headphone case, small enough to live in a backpack or beside a desk, which is the opposite of a headset plus its accessories.
Two glass screens, one per eye, carry the visuals, while cameras on the front are the obvious giveaway that these are not ordinary frames. Speakers and control buttons sit in the arms and temples.
Mixing worlds landed best. Apps can be pinned around a room, resized and dragged around, rather than trapped on one floating panel. Google has said Android XR will span two-screen, single-screen overlay and audio-only glasses.
