An SPD officer is off the street while the department reviews how he came to film a promotional video for a Chinese AI-glasses maker, PubliCola reports.
Officer Adam Sun shot point-of-view footage with Rokid Global glasses inside a police precinct, an investigation area and other department spaces. Rokid posted the clip beside its other promos on social media earlier in September, then took it down.
Rokid markets a thermal face-recognition mode it says lets officers name suspects in seconds. Washington law forbids police from running facial recognition that way, yet the capability anchors how the glasses are deployed by Chinese forces.
Existing SPD policy was arguably already enough: sworn staff are barred from wearing personally owned camera gear. Even so, Assistant Chief Robert Brown issued a department-wide edict within days, banning on-duty use of personal recorders from Meta glasses to digital recorders and barring any clip captured that way from being posted.
