Organizers of the ICE Barcelona gambling expo have extended their Good Neighbour rules to keep wearable recorders off the floor, and Meta glasses are called out by name.
The policy singles out hardware that can capture sound, pictures or video while staying out of sight, pointing to the danger of people being recorded without knowing or agreeing to it.
Exhibitor pressure drove the change. Companies told the organizer that unreleased products could be copied from covert footage, putting intellectual property and research spending at risk.
Margaret Dunn, who oversees ICE and iGB Affiliate Barcelona, said organizers had been approached by exhibitors worried that smart glasses exposed their intellectual property, and that copying erodes what firms sink into development.
Recording is still allowed when it is done openly, under the group’s code of conduct and with consent.
The gathering takes place at Fira Barcelona Gran Via from January 17 to 21, with ICE Barcelona following on January 18 to 20. Nightclubs, courtrooms and government offices have already moved against camera eyewear, and the show floor is the newest frontier.
