Snap used a September 16 livestream to explain what its first consumer AR glasses will actually do. Specs still reach the US, UK and France later this fall, starting at $2,195.
The headline is Specs Intelligence, which Snap calls an anticipatory AI service. It runs across Specs, iPhone and Mac, drawing on connected apps and tools to build context around a wearer’s goals, routines and relationships, then surfacing relevant information in the field of view without being explicitly prompted. Users pick what to connect. Snap says processing happens on-device and in secure cloud infrastructure, personal content is not used to train its models or target ads, and Snap staff cannot view it. A preview opened in the US through the Specs iOS app for users 18 and over.
Snap also lined up content and enterprise partners. Specs will run YouTube, HBO Max and Spotify on a virtual display Snap likens to a 115-inch cinema screen ten feet away, alongside a Harry Potter experience, NBA and WNBA basketball training, Shopify 3D product viewing, TripAdvisor listings, Apollo 11 and Starmap. Reuters reports enterprise tools built with Nvidia, AWS and Salesforce.
A new Charging Case with Cellular adds four charges and its own connectivity, bundled at $2,395 with Verizon data plans from $10 a month, Orange in France and EE in the UK. Snap says the frames skip facial recognition and never record continuously, and an external light confirms when the camera is live. Free demos start October 1 at Snap’s First Look store in Los Angeles.
