Enthusiast headsets from Pimax have always been big. The Dream Air is not. It tips the scales at 10.6 ounces, and Tom’s Guide wore it through a 12-hour endurance sim race with none of the neck strain this category normally produces.
The visor on its own comes in under six ounces. That is a small share of what Pimax’s earlier flagships ask your neck to carry. The reviewer logged three months with it after an early look at CES and ranked it among the best PC VR headsets he has used.
For $1,999 buyers get an 8K display, a wide field of view and the same optics found in the company’s larger units. It also held up through playthroughs of Hitman VR and Half-Life: Alyx.
Not every choice lands. Critics have pointed at the thin straps and at cabling that exits the back of the headset instead of the side. The tester understood the strap complaint but disagreed on the cable, arguing that rear routing spreads weight more evenly than a side-fed line dragging the head down.
The real barrier is the price. At $1,999 the Dream Air does not compete with mainstream headsets and does not try to. It targets sim racers and long-session players who have already decided comfort is the feature worth paying for.
