The supply chain behind Meta’s Phoenix headset has a new Chinese name in it. SeeYA Technology won supplier qualification for the device’s OLED-on-silicon displays, edging out BOE, according to a September 2 DigiTimes dispatch that cites South Korea’s The Elec as the reporting source.
SeeYA builds OLED-on-silicon panels, a display type that layers pixels directly onto silicon wafers to reach the brightness and density compact headsets need without bulky optics. The win puts a Chinese specialist at the center of one of the most closely watched XR hardware programs in the industry, at a moment when US-China supply chain tensions are pushing many device makers to hedge their component sources.
Phoenix has surfaced in leaked setup videos since the summer, and recent retailer-facing listings renamed the device “Pegasus” with a possible first-half 2027 launch window. Panel sourcing is a decisive step on the road to that launch: the supplier pick shapes the headset’s weight, power draw, and unit cost as Meta pushes toward a lighter mixed-reality format between today’s AI glasses and bulkier headsets.
