Meta’s next headset may reach stores under a different name. Retailer-facing pages that previously referred to the device as “Loma” now show “Pegasus,” suggesting the consumer branding for the headset known internally as Phoenix.
UploadVR’s new roundup of the device also points to a first-half 2027 release, citing a December Business Insider report that an internal memo had delayed Phoenix’s target ship date. Meta has told developers that a session at Connect 2026, scheduled for September 23-24, will focus on controller-free interactions, a hint that the headset’s plans could be revealed there.
Phoenix is a glasses-like passthrough VR headset that Meta positions as the spiritual successor to Quest Pro, aiming for a lighter, smaller take on premium mixed reality. Firmware evidence suggests it will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset, the same platform powering XREAL Aura. The device pairs with a tethered compute puck and relies on eye tracking with gaze-and-pinch input as its primary control scheme.
The rename first appeared on support pages run by Pulse LTD, a Meta partner that handles retail deployments, where “Get help” sections walk Best Buy employees through prescription insert pairing, eye tracking calibration, and more.
Meta has not confirmed either the Pegasus name or the launch window.
